“Spain considers so-called "elections" to be held in Nagorno-Karabakh on May 3, 2015 illegitimate,” says the statement of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement says that these elections have no validity: “The secession of this territory was the result of force, against the international law and not recognized by Azerbaijan. The government of Spain takes this opportunity to call on the parties to make progress in the negotiations in order not to perpetuate the status quo and achieve a lasting political solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, basing on the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and Helsinki Final Act, which would strengthen peace and security in the region,” says the statement.
